On Sunday June 22nd, the 2014 outdoor CAA Championships took place at The Hills Road Sixth Form College field in Cambridge. It was attached to the World Record Status Netherhall WA 1440. Our thanks go out to Netherhall Archers for kindly hosting this years competition and for the superb way in which the Tournament was organised and run (they even managed to book the excellent weather!) There were approx 80 archers shooting, of which nearly half were representatives from CAA clubs.

Many thanks to everyone attending who also helped the tournament to go superbly and hope they all will return and support this event in 2015.

The results for the CAA Championships can be found here.

Here is a document describing the qualifying criteria for the upcoming youth commonwealth games. If you have any juniors that meet the criteria, please feel free to contact the necessary people to advance the process. It would be a real boost for your club and the CAA if there was a junior archer in the games from our area.

I am currently looking for archers to join the CAA squad so that I can put together a team for two competitions during the 2014 outdoor season and beyond. The dates for these two competitions  are the 3rd August (team match against Bedfordshire) and the 23rd August (team match against Lincolnshire).

If you are interested in being a member of the CAA squad please send me the results of any competitions you have taken part in over the past year; sooner rather than later please. These scores will be used in order to select the team that will represent Cambridgeshire in the competitions mentioned above. A large number of Cambridgeshire archers have retired from archery this year so we have a real need to build up our squad again. If you know of any other archers that are shooting 1st class or above please direct them towards me.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact me.

Regards

Sean

Following the close of nominations for posts on the CAACG on the 24th of March two people came forward, one for the post of CCO (Education) and one for CCO (Administration) so they are appointed unopposed.

The following two roles remain vacant:

Maureen Edgar has kindly agreed to take on the CCO (Administration) role. She will be responsible for coach license renewals, disciplinary & complaints procedures and the secretarial functions of the CAACG.

Sean Fox has kindly agreed to take on the role of CCO (Education). He will be responsible for organising and delivering coach education opportunities including but not limited to Level-1 and Level-2 coaching courses as required.

Thanks to both Maureen and Sean for volunteering, and the CAA wish them the very best in these roles.

On Sunday  16th February 2014, 10 of Cambridgeshire's longbow archers travelled to Essex to compete in the annual double Portsmouth inter-counties competition. The venue for the competition was Shenfield High school, Brentwood which is the indoor venue for Burnwood Archers.

The Judge in charge was Alan Harding; brought in to stop the traditional banter from escalating into a war!

The first dozen arrows looked very promising for Cambridgeshire, with Essex unable to find the centre, but once the archers settled down scores evened out. By the end of the first Portsmouth round  Essex had the lead.

After a short break the second Portsmouth started and we all knew that we needed to score an extra 2 points per arrow to catch up. At the end of the second session we didn't manage to close the gap.

The final combined scores were: Essex 8268  Cambridgeshire 7794

Congratulations to James Bridges (Cambridgeshire) who, on his team début, shot an excellent score of 490 and 483. This was done  using a longbow that he had made the week before!  Congratulations also to Shaun Jacobs who scored a personal best of 444.

Thank you to all the archers who took part and to Essex for hosting the match and for providing the after match refreshments. Congratulations to Essex and we look forward to hosting the match early next year.
