Peterborough based Griffin Archers, is beginning 2020 with an exciting new venture. Within their Coaching team they have 3 Archers, all AGB qualified coaches, who have experience in Archery totalling almost 100 years!

So along with the rest of the Griffin Archers family we are offering a 4-hour dedicated coaching session open to every AGB Archer. We will then invite you along to our club nights as a free visitor within the following 3 months, giving you the chance to catch up and re-work any issues with the coaching team.

These sessions run on the 3rd Sunday of each month through 2020 and full details including the cost can be found on the Griffin Archers Website at https://griffinarchers.co.uk/progressive-archery-training-programme/

CAA caused upset at the National County Team Championships over the weekend by unseating the favourites Worcestershire and narrowly missing out on the top spot to Warwickshire in the Recurve Women's event.

Pictured above (left to right) are Silver medallists (Jess Sagoo: Peacock Archers, Paula Langton: Peacock Archers and Eleanor Brugg: Cambridge University Bowmen).

Recurve Men and Compound Men battled it out and finished 18th and 11th respectively. A fabulous showing for the county as we've not taken part in this event for nearly ten years!

Full match report to follow.

Archers from across Cambridgeshire took part in Southern Counties first postal competition this winter season.

Based on the popular Portsmouth round (which most clubs shoot regularly during the winter) Cambridgeshire's archers performed brilliantly across all bow-styles and against much larger counties, many of whom have several GB international archers!

Congratulations particularly to Kimberley Callerghan (Cambridge University Bowmen) who finished 7th overall in the barebow category and Max Harris 4th and Daniel Dace 8th (Netherhall Archers) and Flo Levitt 10th (Peacock Archers) who finished in the top ten for the juniors.

On the back of this trial we expect participation to grow this winter and we'll be looking to clubs across the county to get shooting and submit scores for what will no doubt be another great postal competition.

Cambridgeshire team

Cambridgeshire verses Norfolk County Match, 27/3/2019 Hellesdon High School , Norwich.

Cambs has had it first County Match of the 2019 season against a team from Norfolk County.

The match was hosted by the City of Norwich Archers and I am please to say it was a convincing victory for the Cambs team, helped by the fact the Norfolk fielded a number of long bow archers that had to compete with our recurve archers.

However a victory is a victory and we look forward to a return match sometime later in the year.

The round shot was a WA25, a round that most of us do not shot much, so it was interesting .

The Cambridgeshire Team consisted of 5 compound, 6 recurve, and 1 barebow as follows - Steve Haynes, Jack Atkinson, Adam Kentrop, Karl Swepson, Laura Wright, Max Harris, Martin Sullivan, Howard Daly, Anke Hannemann, Sophie Roberts, Florence Levitt and Kimberley Callaghan.

Everybody shot well and enjoyed the match. There were some notable performances and 8 individual medal winners from the 12 team members.

Individual Gold medalists were Laura Wright, Martin Sullivan, Kimberly Callaghan, Florence Levitt and Max Harris.

Individual Silver medallists were Steve Haynes and Anke Hannemann.

Individual Bronze medallist was Sophie Roberts.

As team captain my thanks go out to all who shot ( and the mums and dads who have to be the taxi service 🙂 to Norwich county for hosting us and to Stephen Dace for arranging the match.

From 1st April 2019 there is a new name in Archery, Griffin Archers of Peterborough. Formerly known as Invictus Bowmen the club have changed their name, whilst retaining their overall club ethos, community base, inclusive membership and overall family feeling.

The name has changed to Griffin Archers predominantly to avoid any confusion with either The Invictus Trust or The Invictus Foundation, both of whom the club support wholeheartedly but have never actually been a part of. In fact we have members who have competed in the Invictus Games and remain part of Help for Heroes, so we retain a good relationship with disabled sports.

Griffin Archers will remain a firm fixture at The Focus Centre, Peterborough and welcomes enquiries and visits from any prospective, interested or existing archers alike. Our coaches are happy to help with anything from performance archery skills to basic shooting competence and have experience with juniors, disabilities and those elusive teens!

As an inclusive club, Griffin Archers are totally accessible and able to accommodate any specific needs. We have found that Archery is a very welcoming sport that allows the individual archer to attain personal success at whatever level they wish to pursue. Its formality and routine give comfort to those who struggle with mental health and physical issues and every Griffin Archer quickly becomes part of our proud and supportive Griffin family.

As Griffins are mythical creatures with the head of an eagle and the lower body of a lion. This makes them masters of the air, and kings of the land. They have been considered as courageous and as military leaders which maintains the military connection established by Invictus Bowmen due to the military service of its founder and many of its members. Griffins also connect us to our community in Peterborough, as the towns Coat of Arms is a duo of Griffins guarding the crossed keys to the gates of heaven given to the town’s cathedral by St Peter at its dedication!

So, with our strong new name and our archers getting out and about to compete more and more we are evolving from a club built of Novices to Team Griffin! Watch out for the purple, black and silver, competing near you soon.
